CURRENT ARTISTIC DIRECTION

*In the absence of an Artistic Director at the Municipal Regional Theater of Kavala, which organizes the Philippi Festival, the artistic planning and implementation of the 69th Philippi Festival (2026) and the 10th Ancient Drama Workshop were entrusted to actress, director, and playwright Eva Oikonomou Vamvaka.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Eva Oikonomou-Vamvaka was born in Kavala. She studied at the Athens Law School (where she obtained a degree and two master’s degrees in Sociology of Law and Civil Law) and at the Karolos Koun School of Theater Arts. In 2020, she attended an intensive filmmaking program at the historic FAMU university in Prague. In September 2025, she was accepted into the master’s program “Creative Writing, Theater & Cultural Industries” at the Department of Theater Studies at the University of the Peloponnese.

She began working as an actress in 2007, when, as a second-year student, she appeared at the Underground Theater of the Art Theater alongside I. Logothetis in the play “The Sin of My Mother” by G. Vizyinos, directed by K. Kapelonis. Since then, she has collaborated with the country’s largest theaters (National Theater, State Theater of Northern Greece, Onassis Foundation, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, National Opera, Karolos Koun Art Theater, Porta Theater, etc.).

In recent years, she has been working mainly as a director/writer, collaborating with major organizations in Greece (Philippi-Thasos Festival, Karolos Koun Art Theater, D.I.P.E.TH.E., D.I.P.E.TH.E. Serres) and abroad (Nuovo Teatro Sanita, Naples, Italy, Paisaje Público, Santiago, Chile). In particular, her play #Miameraxwris has been staged by many other groups in Greece and Cyprus, taking part in various Teenage Theater Festivals.

From 2016 to 2022, she was a member of the teaching staff at the Higher Drama School of the Art Theater, teaching “principles of physical theater.” During 2019-2020, she volunteered to teach theater education and principles of physical theater to a group of addicted teenagers at KETHEA.

In 2021, she was accepted into the international residency for young creators, “R-evolution Project,” in which she collaborated for two years with other artists from around the world to create a multidisciplinary show. Between 2022 and 2023, she participated as a new director/writer in the Creative Europe program “Jeune Théâtre Européen Jeunes Publics,” which focuses on the creation of original multilingual works for children and adolescents. The result of this participation was the show “Borderline,” which she directed in June 2023 at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus (Omega stage).

In December 2022, she was elected artistic director of the Municipal Theater of Kavala and the Philippi Festival.
