The 68th Philippi Festival once again includes in its program a very important institution, which in recent years has breathed new life into the wider area of the Ancient Theater: the 9th Ancient Drama Workshop. This is a creative research camp held in the Krinides area, which focuses on the entire learning process, offering a fresh and innovative perspective on ancient drama.

Placing greater emphasis on teaching and research and less on the final result, this year it invites four renowned directors-teachers to form working groups and work together for ten days, combining their knowledge, experiences, bodies, and voices to create a new world.

In this year’s edition, a group of 18 students, selected through an open call, will be inspired by the absurd equation-title of the Festival, “8-3=11,” and seeks, through the act of giving, the essence that transforms us, that unique act that makes us human heroes.

The 9th Ancient Drama Workshop will be taught by (in alphabetical order): Xenia Themeli, Christos Theodoridis, Anastasia Koumidou, and Kalliopi Simou.

The open call is addressed to: final-year students and graduates of drama schools, film schools, and university theater departments (practical orientation).

The courses will take place from August 28 to September 5, 2025, while on Saturday, September 6, there will be presentations of the performances that have been created, with free admission.

The cost of participating in the 9th Ancient Drama Workshop is €100 per person and covers tuition, accommodation (in double rooms), and half board (breakfast and lunch). Classes will be held daily and will include both practical exercises and masterclasses with all instructors.

Participants will be selected by the instructors based on their CVs.

Applications (with CV) should be sent to thkavala@otenet.gr by Sunday, August 10, with the subject line “Application for the 9th Ancient Drama Workshop.”

The results will be announced on Wednesday, August 13.

For more information, please call the Kavala Municipal Theater at 2510. 220876 (10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.).
