Federico García Lorca’s “Blood Wedding”, inspired by a real crime of passion in the Spanish countryside, deals with forbidden love, family honor, marriage, money, property that leads to a vendetta, fate, and the social oppression of women in a world of strict rules, where passion collides relentlessly with duty and tradition. It is a modern tragedy with a strong lyrical and symbolic character. Dialogue and choral parts coexist in the work, while the supernatural element (Moon, Death, Nature) is utilized as a catalyst for the tragic climax. Folk traditions and myth form the core of the drama, which enters a direct dialogue with the ancient Greek tragedy researched by Kostas Tsianos.
