Mayor’s Greeting

There are moments when Art is not limited to the role of entertainment, but functions as a discreet power of inner transformation. It invites us to reconsider what we think of as familiar, to see the world around us in a different way, and to approach our own inner self more deeply. Within this framework, the 69th Philippi Festival develops this year a creative reflection on the theme of “Metamorphosis”.

In an era where everything changes rapidly and certainties are often tested while uncertainties overwhelm us, the Philippi Festival chooses to highlight the power of Art as a field of essential experience and reflection. The theatre, music, and every form of artistic expression function as vehicles through which we can once again approach what we used to take for granted and confront our personal and collective transitions.

This year’s programme unfolds in a polyphonic and multi-thematic way, maintaining the open and restless character of the institution. The performances at the emblematic Ancient Theatre of Philippi, the concerts, the presence of opera, as well as the five productions of the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kavala, compose a set of actions that seeks to unite different artistic languages and generations of spectators. This is a conscious choice of interaction and creative exploration, which keeps the institution alive and constantly evolving.

The main venue of action is not only a place of historical memory. It is a landmark in which the past “converses” with the present, and a point of reference where every summer Art acquires special weight and substance. Perhaps because within this landscape, human beings feel closer to what truly matters… to thought, to emotion, to collective experience, and to the overall “Metamorphosis”.

With the conviction that Culture remains the most essential way for us to meet and transform collectively, we invite you to share the experience of this year’s Philippi Festival as a dynamic act of presence, listening, and subtle inner movement.
